VHF Radio Facility Upgrade – Trimley Water Tower

This project was planned over a 12 month period to ensure minimal disruption to HHA’s VHF radio shipping service and follows our successful upgrade of the main radar facility at Landguard Point in 2017.

The VHF radio facility is based at the Trimley Water Tower in Felixstowe and serves HHA’s pilotage operations for the container ships using Felixstowe Port along with other vessels and boats accessing the estuary and port areas. As such it is a critical part of their operation and needed detailed planning and coordination between many parties.

The works included the demolition of the existing equipment building and the installation of a new bespoke GRP unit along with new electrical equipment fit out and IT works.

The project was completed ahead of the planned shutdown period and provides HHA with a more resilient facility for the future.
