Landguard Point Boardwalk – Felixstowe

Landguard Point in Felixstowe is a popular location for sea walks and is designated a SSSI area. Following storms and tidal surges a plastic boardwalk at the tip was severely damaged until it became unusable and dangerous. In May 2020 we dismantled the boardwalk and stored the undamaged individual elements for re-use elsewhere in the nature reserve. HHA provided funding to rebuild the missing section to reestablish an accessible link at the tip of the land. We proposed a concrete walkway cast on the top of the old sea defence/WW2 structure which had also become dangerous for walkers. A kee klamp barrier was also installed to make the walkway safe. We concreted treated timber posts into the stones to provide support for a new and stronger boardwalk structure to link the new concrete walkway with the existing boardwalk and concrete road network. The new walkway provides an accessible route for all to enjoy this part of the coastline.
